Drum journeys are based on a Shamanic practice, using the repetitive, steady beat of the drum to induce a trance-like meditative state (known as an Altered State of Conciousness or ASC). This can induce an experience similar to that of lucid dreaming that can be deeply powerful.
The ritualistic use of drums as part of spiritual practice is ancient and drumming is very much a part of the human psyche, mirroring the pattern of our lives, from the patter of our footsteps to the beat of our hearts. Drumming practices can be found across the world, interwoven with the myriad of peoples and cultures that inhabit it.
Drum massage is the use of the drum directly over the body (unlike during journeying, where the drum is played at more of a distance), the vibrations “massaging” the body.
In both practices, the steady pulse and vibrations of the drum create “rhythmic entrainment”, the potential benefits including:
- Reducing feelings of stress and/or anxiety
- Lowered blood pressure and heart rate
- Releasing emotional tension (and pain)
- Reducing physical (muscle) tension (and pain)
- Cleansing of energetic fields
- Improving quality of sleep
- Improving your mood
- Improved mental clarity and creativity
In addition, if you find it challenging to meditate, the drum can be an excellent means of supporting you.
Appointments are 40 minutes (including time to rest and come round) and up to two people may attend at a time.
Further attendees possible, if discussed in advance, for an additional price.
