The early days of postpartum (post natal) are so special, but they can also be so hard!
- Being pregnant
- Giving birth (whether vaginally or through caesarian section)
- Caring for a newborn (and potentially other children)
All have an impact on our well-being, even before we start to consider external influences. As a mum of six who has previously struggled both in pregnancy and postpartum, it is my firm belief that everyone should have access to holistic therapy support!
The ideal is that you are able to rest as much as possible to aid your recovery. Postpartum (postnatal) massage and reflexology can make a difference to this.
Postpartum your body is going through rapid adjustments.
- Your internal abdominal organs, previously dominated by your baby, now have to settle back into the space
- Your uterus is steadily shrinking back towards its pre-pregnant size (this can cause quite some discomfort!)
- Your breasts are potentially uncomfortable and swollen with milk.
- If you have had a caesarian, you will also be recovering from major abdominal surgery.
Add to that the sudden changes in hormones that go alongside all of these changes and there is suddenly rather a lot going on in your body. Even before you consider the effect that this has on your emotions and, potentially, mental health.
Complimentary therapies can help to ease the tightness, pain and discomfort you may be experiencing (including easing constipation and encouraging ‘digestive flow’). These therapies have been shown to help to increase dopamine and serotonin, and lower cortisol and norepinephrine levels. This helps to reduce tension that can lead to headaches; tiredness and fatigue; stress and anxiety. As such they can also be supportive where you may be experiencing postnatal depression.
Ultimately the aim is to support you to take some time for yourself, to relax and regain your inner balance.
Tailored support
As a mother of six I know, all too well, how challenging being a mother can be. Drawing on both my professional and personal experience, I interweave various therapies depending on your needs.
Appointments may involve:
- Massage – including womb massage, scar work (may include cupping), etc.
- Reflexology
- Aromatherapy
- Closing the Bones (aka Sacred Wrapping)
- Energy work and visualisation
- Sound work – gongs, bowls, drumming and other percussion
Recovery takes time! As such I recommend a programme of at least 6 treatments (and offer packages to support this).

What’s more, I know how important it is that you are able to access the kind of support that I offer. As such…
Baby is welcome to come with you!
However, adaptations may need to be made (please check Terms & Conditions at booking). Please note the longer treatment times may be more challenging for baby to sleep and feed through!
If you prefer, you may bring an additional person to wait with baby in an adjoining room. Or you may prefer to attend alone – and have some “me time”! Whatever you need to do to give yourself some time and space to relax and recharge helps support you to support your family.
